MS Domestic Violence and Abuse Research Initiative Enters Phase II

We have now started the second phase of the MS Domestic Violence and Abuse project, marked by the arrival of a postdoctoral research fellow in April 2024.

Our two PhD researchers have gathered valuable evidence, which is now being meticulously analysed. Our postdoctoral fellow is collating the key findings from their primary data and developing a comprehensive toolkit. This toolkit aims to help MS health providers effectively identify and manage signs and disclosures of domestic violence and abuse experienced by people with multiple sclerosis.

The toolkit, currently being created by our postdoctoral fellow, will assist MS health professionals to:

  • Identify red flags during medical appointments.
  • Approach the sensitive topic of domestic violence and abuse with the right questions.
  • Provide appropriate referrals and support when patients disclose abuse.

We are committed to keeping our community informed about this important work. Stay tuned for regular updates on this project in the coming months. We will be sharing more insights and progress as we move forward.
